Dear Mr. Slapak:
Thank you for writing. President Obama has heard from many Americans about the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repeal, and we want to make sure you are aware of some relevant information about this issue.
On December 22, 2010, President Obama signed the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," clearing the way for our Armed Forces to be strengthened by the service of countless dedicated patriots, and leading our Nation forward in a step toward equality for all Americans.
As President Obama said in his State of the Union Address:
Our troops come from every corner of this country -- they're black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American. They are Christian and Hindu, Jewish and Muslim. And, yes, we know that some of them are gay. Starting this year, no American will be forbidden from serving the country they love because of who they love.
Because of the professionalism and patriotism of our service members and our military leadership, the President is confident we can effect this transition in a way that strengthens our military readiness and our national security.

Sincerely,
The White House
